SS: Sunday Saves (#80)

sunday-saves

Good morning everyone and Happy Sunday! I hope you’re all having a wonderful weekend so far. Today I’m back on the blog with the eightieth edition of my Sunday Saves; if you’re new to the blog and you don’t know what my Sunday Saves are; it’s when I talk about three blog posts I’ve read during the week that I either relate to or I find interesting. I believe bloggers should support their fellow bloggers and this is just my little piece of that puzzle each week. In today’s post, I’ll be talking about winter changes, a different view on the phrase “everything happens for a reason” and asking ourselves if we are relatable enough.

1) Sophie’s Makeup (The Changes I’ve Made In Prep For A Cosier, Happier Winter)

Sophie’s post is something we all strive for in the winter months. Hot water bottles, cosy blankets, fresh sheets, Christmas markets and gentle yoga are a number of suggestions that Sophie talks about in her post. We all like a little change when it comes to this year so if you’re looking for inspiration, you know where to go.

2) Anticallacy (Everything Doesn’t Happen For A Reason)

“Everything happens for a reason” or does it? Well that’s what Piper is discussing in her post and I have to agree with her. I try every day to think positively, and while it’s hard, when something bad happens, I try and tell myself “everything happens for a reason”. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. I love Piper’s commentary on this subject because it really feels that there are so many layers but there’s not, and it’s about opening your mind to simplify it down. Bad things simply happen for no reason, and it’s something that I’m trying to believe rather than have my mind go in overdrive trying to explain something happening.

3) London Damsel (Are You Unrelatable?)

A constant battle with bloggers; Are we relatable? Do we want to be? Do you want your Instagram feed to be filled with people who have the exact same interests as you? For me, I follow different blogs because they gauge my interest in various aspects. I might read someone’s blog who really inspires me to be more adventurous with Autumnal styles. I might read someone’s blog who gives me the low down on the latest budget friendly skin care. At the same time, my fashion sense isn’t one of my strong points and I don’t know very much about skin care in general but those blogs draw me in because I’m taking away something from their blog posts. Maya talks about being yourself and producing content that you are passionate about, rather than what you think others will enjoy.

Thank you so much for reading today’s post; remember to take a look at today’s choices and send them some love on social media. If there are any posts you want to send me, please do over on my Instagram or Twitter socials!

(Blogmas Day Nine) A Cosy Winter Night In.

Happy Blogmas Day Nine! I hope you’re all having a lovely Friday so far! So today’s post is about having a cosy night in. It’s Friday night, I’m at home on my own and I’m not too well so I thought I would go all out and treat myself to a relaxing night and I thought I would share how I’m doing that.

As soon as I got through the door, I stuck the kettle on for a cup of tea. I’ve started to use my little ForLife teapot that my Mum bought me for my birthday, I love the colour of this one!

My tea of choice tonight was ‘Dozy Girl’ by Bluebird Tea Company. It’s a very floral tea made up with chamomile and lavender so it’s a perfect bed time tea! I don’t have it very often though because I see it a special tea.

You know when you buy ‘back up presents’ and they’re basically presents you buy in case you forget to buy someone something and you have a few spare gifts left over? Well, I went to light some candles in the living room and I remembered I had opened a ‘back up’ a few weeks ago from last Christmas. The holder is really cute with the little fake cookies and gingerbread men. Candles are a must all year around, never mind Christmas!

The gift set came with one of my favourite Christmas scents, Candy Cane Lane. Who needs to put candy canes on your tree this year when you can have the scent instead?

I can’t have a cosy night in at Christmas without turning the Christmas tree lights on (and the fireplace too!). I love the tree makes everything so much more cosier.

Socks, socks, socks! Everyone needs a pair of warm cosy socks in their life so I stuck on a pair of my brand new ones because they always feel the best! (I also changed into my dressing gown and sweatpants!)

And finally, my Mum bought me two gluten free cupcakes (My favourite one!) so I’ll be having one with either a YouTube marathon or when I’m catching up on my TV shows.

If your cosy nights in are similar to mine and you have any blog posts along the same lines, tweet me them at @RetroSnowflake or leave me a comment below. Have a great weekend!

(Blogmas Day Four) Christmas Bucket List!

It’s Day Four of Blogmas! Today I wanted to share my Christmas Bucket List. Now these aren’t resolutions, goals or anything like that; I just wanted to create a nice, attainable list to work with over the Christmas period. I’m off for about a week and a half so I don’t want it to go to waste, so that’s why I’m adding potential activities to do over this time.

1) Enjoy a hot chocolate.

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while or you follow me on Twitter, you’ll know that I can’t eat cocoa. I’ve done two full blog posts on my intolerances so I’ll have them linked here and here. So having a hot chocolate isn’t as easy for me; there’s nothing I would love more than to walk round the Christmas market with a cosy hot chocolate. I have the next best thing, well when I say ‘the next best thing’, it’s actually so much nicer. One of my favourite restaurants in Belfast, Tony and Jens, make the greatest hot chocolate ever. It’s made with cacao instead of cocoa and they use a natural sweetener rather than sugar. I only discovered this about two weeks ago so I will definitely be back before Santa comes!

And yes, it’s as good as it looks!

2) Watch my favourite Christmas film on Christmas Eve.

Now I don’t want to go into this too much because I’m planning on doing a full Blogmas post on ‘The Santa Clause’ which I’m sure you can guess, is my favourite Christmas film. Every year I watch it on Christmas Eve, it’s a tradition I have because I don’t necessarily watch it with the family. But hey, as long as I have my cup of tea, I’m a happy bunny.

3) Get more sleep.

Aah sleep. You and I have a very rocky relationship don’t we? A five hour sleep is a success in my eyes, I’m pretty bad with getting the recommended eight hours. But since I’ll be off for Christmas for about a week and a half, I can’t wait to catch up on sleep but not go overboard on lie ins (I do plan on still getting up early!).

4) Spend more time at the gym.

The gym at Christmas is a dream! It’s emptier than usual and because I’ll be off, I’ll feel like I have more time to go,  I can even go early morning or at lunch if I want to. The gym will feature in an upcoming blog post so I’ll link it here when it’s posted. My workouts have been lacking so I can’t wait to get back on track with them over Christmas.

5) Clear out my bedroom.

There’s the potential that I could be moving out in the New Year so Christmas will be the ultimate time to have a massive clear out and I need to down size, majorly! So clearing my room out isn’t a want, it’s a must!

6) Have a baking day.

I used to love baking! I had my little Sunday routine where I would go to the gym, head to Tesco for the food shop, I would make my favourite energy balls then to top it off I’d make the next weeks lunches. As we all know, life happens and my routine slipped (and I had a new Sunday routine for a while, which I loved just as much) but I’m hoping to bake lots of healthy sweets over the Christmas period since I won’t be able to eat all the amazing Lindt and Roses sweets.

These are the energy balls I used to constantly make. I would say I got very obsessed with them for a while. No regrets!

7) Start a new television show.

I love TV. I’ll openly admit that I’m more of a television girl than a film girl. In saying that though,  I probably haven’t seen most of your favourite shows. Orange Is the New Black? No but I want to. House of Cards? No but I want to. The Walking Dead? Scandal? Making a Murderer? Can you see where I’m going with this? There’s a new programme that has just started on Channel 4 called ‘This is Us’ so I can’t wait to start that because the trailer looks like my type of show. Even though I haven’t seen it, if you liked Parenthood, I think you’ll like this.

8) Make time to read.

If you read Blogmas Day One, you’ll recognise this photograph. I have quite a few books to read and what would be a more perfect time to read them than over the Christmas holidays?

If you’ve done a similar list, please tweet me over at @RetroSnowflake or in the comments below. If you’ve missed any of my other Blogmas posts, you’ll find them right here!

(Blogmas Day One) What I’ll Be Reading This Winter

Happy December and yes, Happy Blogmas! Now, I know what you’re thinking, isn’t Blogmas meant to be blogging every day in December until Christmas? Yes, but I’m changing it up so I’ll be blogging every other day for the whole of December. I’ll be here with a brand new post every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. They won’t all be Winter or Christmas themed, I’m mixing that up too.

I’ll be starting Blogmas off with reading. I have always said I wanted to read more and with the Christmas holidays coming up and the most relaxed atmosphere around this time of year, I’m going to sit myself down and try my best to get through my collection of books I have stacked up but haven’t managed to get through yet. I’ll probably not get through them all but a girl can try!

What will you be reading this Winter?

SS: Sunday Saves (#28)

sunday-saves

Happy Sunday! I can’t believe we’re almost half way through November already, it’s crazy! As always, if you haven’t read any of my other Sunday Saves or you want to find out more about them, you can click right here to find the other twenty seven editions so far! This week I’ll be talking about winter essentials, a LUSH bath ballistic and not playing hard to get.

1. Joyce Lau (Ready for Winter)

Joyce’s post is all about prepping for Winter so when I seen something associated with LUSH, a Yankee Candle, fluffy socks and jumpers, I knew Joyce was the girl for me. Everything she said in her post, I related to and that’s what I really love about Sunday Saves. I have to do such a big clear out of all my clothes and I think once I do that, then I can go buy all the cosy clothes for Winter!

2. What Lauren Did Today (LUSH So White Bath Bomb)

So White from LUSH is something I buy every single year. Not only because it’s one of the nicest smelling bath ballistics (and the shower gel that had for that brief moment in time was also amazing!) but because it looks so simple on the outside but it’s SO pretty on in the inside. If you have to buy one bath ballistic this year, seriously consider So White.

3. That Rainbow Girl (Play Hard To Get and I’ll Find It Hard To Care)

Playing hard to get? That’s the advice every guy and girl is given and to be honest, I don’t even know by who? I mean, I know my Mum didn’t tell me and I didn’t talk about guys to my friends until the last year or so, so it must have been society. Apparently if a guy really likes you, he’ll not text for a few days and that’s totally acceptable to sit by your phone and wait. If you really like a guy, why not just leave him hanging for a few days and if you still really want to text him, then you’ll know after not talking to him for a few days. Seriously? What bull did I actually listen to? Admittedly I only ever had one guy do this to me and he led me on for over a year and it sucked. It really sucked thinking you were something to someone to then be nothing a minute later, even though the way he spoke to you, it was like you were ‘something’. That Rainbow Girl has the same views; we’re busy, we have so much to do before, during and after work, and if you think we have the time to sit and wait around for people like this, NO! We just don’t. If you think playing hard to get is a good idea, it’s not; let me tell you right now, it’s not so just don’t do it. It’s something I’d rather get into in a blog post on its own (which I probably will) but for me, I’ll never understand how playing hard to get is going to find you someone you want to spend your life with.

Apologises for the last rant, but things like that really grind my gears! Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this week’s post, if you did or didn’t, let me know why in the comment or with a tweet over at @RetroSnowflake 💕

SS: Sunday Saves (#25)

I hit 25! It’s such a huge landmark for my blog this week, twenty five editions of Sunday Saves! If you want to look back on my other Sunday Saves, you can find them right here. This week I’ll be talking about exercise in Winter, vegan chocolate and musicals!

1. Purely Amy (Winter is coming. How to prepare for running seasion in the cold.)

Amy has hit the nail on the head with her post. Running or exercise in general is just as important in Winter as it is the rest of the year but a lot of people are put off with it being colder which is completely understandable. What would you rather choose? Cuddling in your warm cosy bed or being outside in the freezing cold running a 5K? I want to be one of those people that eventually chooses the latter (but right now, I’m a good cuddling in bed with my fluffy duvet type of person) because I know once Christmas comes, I’ll feel better for making more of an effort with my fitness and not let the cold stop me. Amy gives advice on what clothing to wear, how to set a schedule and she’s taking part in Mo Running too (just like me!) so she talks about the charity and how she plans to train for it.

2. The Little Blog of Vegan (Ombar Chocolate – Perfect Stocking Fillers!)

Sneak peek! I have included the Ombars in a post that is coming up later on in the week so look out for that! I love Ombars; I only discovered them a few months ago after being on the hunt for vegan chocolate for someone I know and then discovering I could have it too. I haven’t tried all their flavours but Coco Mylk is my favourite by far. Holly Jade goes more in depth in all the flavours you can get, so if you’re interested in a chocolate that is gluten free, dairy free and vegan, make sure you check out her post!

3. Bloo’N’Stuff (Out ‘n’ About | Ghost the Musical)

Sara blogged about her experience at the musical ‘Ghost’ that took place a few weeks ago at the Grand Opera house. It was a limited date show and I had the pleasure of seeing the same show! I’m not too sure when Sara went but I went on the Tuesday; it was my first musical theatre I had ever seen live and I was blown away. The reason I chose to include Sara’s post is because she blogged about her whole experience as well as the show; I don’t think I would be able to do a live performance justice in a blog post and Sara did such a good job of it.

I can’t believe I got to 25 and I can’t wait to get to 50 now! I love finding new blog posts every week because blog reading is one of my favourite chill out activities, so to blog about them just makes that even better.
