SS: Sunday Saves (#47)

sunday-saves

Happy Easter everyone! I hope you have a lovely day no matter what you end up doing. I’m personally not doing anything special today, my family don’t tend to do anything for Easter so I’ll be just having a little housework day. For today’s Sunday Saves, I thought I would have an Easter theme, because it just seemed so appropriate so I’ll be talking about Easter gifts and traditions!

1) Being Ashleigh (Easter 2017 Gift Guide)

Ashleigh’s gift guide includes my favourite chocolate of ALL TIME (Of course, we’re talking about Ombar) but she talks about cakes, Easter eggs, chocolate scented shower gel (No, seriously!) and even a Yankee Candle (I have smelt this one and I can confirm, it smells pretty damn good!). So if you’re looking for a present post-Easter or maybe want to grab yourself a bargain after the Bank Holiday  Weekend, consider looking for a few of these.

2) Hannah Heartss (Yankee Candle Easter 2017 Gift Set)

As a huge fan of Yankee Candles, I don’t feel Easter is right without receiving, giving or even lighting a candle. Since my chocolate range is extremely limited, candles are the way to go with me and I even got some for the occasion! Hannah talks about one of the Easter collections Yankee have released this year.

3) Marvel Steph (Easter Traditions to Start in 2017)

The only tradition I have known over Easter is eating chocolate until your little heart is content. I sadly haven’t been able to do this in a few years so I currently have no traditions when it comes to Easter (apart from being off work for an extra few days, that is quite lovely!) I love Steph’s idea of starting new traditions for the occasion though; I know a lot of people love going out for an Easter walk, I think it’s quite cute and I love the idea of an Easter cake (Maybe next year!).

Well that’s all from my Sunday Saves this week, I hope you have a lovely extended weekend, if you’re one of the lucky ones and thanks for reading!

(Blogmas Day Nine) A Cosy Winter Night In.

Happy Blogmas Day Nine! I hope you’re all having a lovely Friday so far! So today’s post is about having a cosy night in. It’s Friday night, I’m at home on my own and I’m not too well so I thought I would go all out and treat myself to a relaxing night and I thought I would share how I’m doing that.

As soon as I got through the door, I stuck the kettle on for a cup of tea. I’ve started to use my little ForLife teapot that my Mum bought me for my birthday, I love the colour of this one!

My tea of choice tonight was ‘Dozy Girl’ by Bluebird Tea Company. It’s a very floral tea made up with chamomile and lavender so it’s a perfect bed time tea! I don’t have it very often though because I see it a special tea.

You know when you buy ‘back up presents’ and they’re basically presents you buy in case you forget to buy someone something and you have a few spare gifts left over? Well, I went to light some candles in the living room and I remembered I had opened a ‘back up’ a few weeks ago from last Christmas. The holder is really cute with the little fake cookies and gingerbread men. Candles are a must all year around, never mind Christmas!

The gift set came with one of my favourite Christmas scents, Candy Cane Lane. Who needs to put candy canes on your tree this year when you can have the scent instead?

I can’t have a cosy night in at Christmas without turning the Christmas tree lights on (and the fireplace too!). I love the tree makes everything so much more cosier.

Socks, socks, socks! Everyone needs a pair of warm cosy socks in their life so I stuck on a pair of my brand new ones because they always feel the best! (I also changed into my dressing gown and sweatpants!)

And finally, my Mum bought me two gluten free cupcakes (My favourite one!) so I’ll be having one with either a YouTube marathon or when I’m catching up on my TV shows.

If your cosy nights in are similar to mine and you have any blog posts along the same lines, tweet me them at @RetroSnowflake or leave me a comment below. Have a great weekend!

The Sweater Weather Tag.

I don’t think I’ve ever featured a tag on the blog so why not start now? I was reading Bronagh’s Beauty and Books blog and she posted the Sweater Weather tag and it seemed like just my cup of tea, so I’m borrowing it from her. If you want to check out her answers, they’re right here!

This tag seems like it’s typically done before Christmas but we’re still in Winter until the end of February, so it’s still a pretty perfect time to do it. Okay, technically it should have been done in Autumn, but screw the rules on this one 😉 Oh, and I just changed Fall to Autumn, since that’s what we say in Northern Ireland.

1) Favourite candle scent?
Anyone that follows me on Twitter or Instagram will know how difficult this is for me. I’m in love with candles. Absolutely in love. If I only had to pick one however, it would be Fireside Treats by Yankee Candle (Here’s a link to it from my Instagram if you haven’t seen it before)

2) Coffee, Tea or Hot Chocolate?
Well I used to LOVE hot chocolate but I have an intolerance to cocoa so I can’t indulge in them anymore. Tea is my favourite drink anyway; I love tea with milk and my favourite herbal and green tea brand is TeaPigs.

3) What’s the best Autumn memory you have?
Getting all my new stationery to start back to school in September.

4) Which make-up trend do you prefer: winged eyeliner or dark lips?
Winged eyeliner! I’ve dabbled in dark lips but I don’t know if I’ll ever find something that suits me and doesn’t make me look like a ghost.

5) Best fragrance for Autumn?
I don’t work in seasons with perfume, I normally just have my favourite and stick with it all year round, so that would be Calvin Klein Euphoria for Women.

6) Favourite Thanksgiving food?
We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving but I think the whole premise of the food is generally the same. I do love stuffing!

7) What is Autumn weather like where you live?
It’s wet, it’s rainy, it’s cold. It’s pretty much like this all year; we maybe get a few weeks of sun every year.

8) Most worn sweater?
It has to be The Office Christmas sweatshirt I got a few weeks ago or my penguin Christmas-like jumper I got last Christmas from Tesco.

9) Must have nail polish this Autumn?
Again, I’m not one for matching colours to seasons; if I want to wear pink in December and grey in July, I do. My favourite colours over the past few months have been Chando’s Place by Nails Inc and Midnight Sparkles by Tanya Burr.

10) Football games or jumping in leaves?
I don’t like football games so I think you know the answer.

11) Skinny jeans or leggings?
Skinny jeans all the way. I’ve never worn leggings, I have worn jeggings but never leggings.

12) Combat boots or UGG boots?
I’ve never owned or even worn anything that resembles UGG boots, and I wear combat-like boots pretty much 80% of the year.

13) Is Pumpkin Spice worth the hype?
I’ve never tried it so I don’t know.

14) Favourite Autumn television show?
While I’ve been off for my Christmas holidays, I’ve been watching a lot of Cheers. I also watch it when I’m just looking for an easy watch, it’s such a great show.

15) What songs really get you into the Autumn spirit?
I don’t know any Autumn inspire songs?

2014 Other Favourites

Second post of my 2014 Favourite trilogy: Anything that isn’t beauty and skincare, so health, fitness, food, TV shows and anything else, almost like a little random section and like the first post, if I have an Instagram picture, it’ll be linked beside it.

Women’s Health Magazine (x)
My Mum paid for a subscription for me for this magazine last Christmas and it’s always a nice surprise every month getting it through the post. It’s not like those women’s magazines where it tells you you can drop a stone in four weeks; it gives real advice, insightful interviews and takes health seriously. I have another subscription for this year too so I can’t wait to get more!

FitBit Flex (x) (x)
I got a FitBit Flex at the end of February, I had been looking at it for months and was thinking about it and I finally took the plunge. It was a special price at the time, I think it might have had £10 or £15 off the original price so I thought why not. Then in October, I bought myself a pink band for it. It’s really motivating to get more steps in every day and I still get a little boost when it vibrates every time I hit 10,000 steps.

Nike Free Runs (x)
Now, I’m not actually sure if these are thee Free Runs, they might be the slightly older version but they are pretty much the same thing. I went to the Nike Outlet at the beginning of the year to get some good trainers because I had always bought cheaper ones but I wanted to be more serious with my workout gear and trainers are always a good place to start. I got two pairs that day, and I use this pair for cardio work. They’re fantastic for running and any other cardio, but I tend to use a heavier shoe for weight training. I got a really amazing deal on them because they were from the Nike Outlet and I spent less on two pairs of shoes that I would on one pair if I had’ve paid the original retail price. They’re purple too so it adds a nice little pop of colour too (Not that that is important to a gym, but you have to add a smile to a cold winter morning somehow).

Kale (x)
I’ll admit, a weird one to add to favourites but last year I found kale and I fell in love. I became obsessed in June with making kale chips and they’re just the best!

Sweet Potato (x)
I prefer these now to regular potatoes. They’re so delicious and a personal favourite is two small baked sweet potatoes and loads of sweetcorn. It’s so so good!

Amazeballs (x)
I discovered “Check Out My Buns” on Facebook in February and found out they had a stall in a local weekend market in Belfast so I went down one Saturday and got loads of little food goodies. They are a gluten free company with almost all their products being vegan too, which I love. I’m not a vegan myself but I love that they cater to vegetarians and vegans, as well as people who are eating gluten free, like myself. The amazeballs are made up of ingredients like cocoa powder and nuts, and they’re a nice sweet treat. I can never eat a whole one, I always cut mine in half, and if I buy 5, they can last me up to a week. It’s a nice, good, wholesome snack.

Pulsin Vanilla Chocolate Chip Protein Snack (x)
I was online one day in November looking around for protein bars, mainly for after the gym. Most of the bars I’ve seen either contain gluten or soya (Which I also can’t have) so when I found these on Amazon, I was so excited and they didn’t disappointed. Everyone who I’ve let taste them, couldn’t get used to the taste of them but I love them. It’s a mix between fudge and cookie dough; they’re gluten free, soya free and vegan, so an all round great bar.

Genius Chocolate Cupcakes (x)
We all love a cupcake because it’s like a party in your mouth. Now I’m not saying that this is an every day thing, or every week, but I do like to treat myself to one of these now and again. They’re gluten free, soya free and just overall amazing.

Tea
2014 was the year for tea. I tried loads of teas, I got used to green tea, I loved loads of tea and it’s so lovely having some choice for tea now.

Pandora Bracelet (x)
Last year was the year I indulged and bought myself a Pandora bracelet. I had been looking at them for years and I finally done it. I’d always loved my friend Whitney’s bracelets and she was just as excited as me when I got mine. I’ve been building it up all year and it’s not the type of thing I would buy myself every month. If there’s a special occasion then I would buy myself a charm to signify that. For example, I bought the ‘grandmother’ pendant charm when my Granny passed away and I bought the star to represent my first adult job. It’s a meaningful bracelet with each charm (excluding the spacers) having a special meaning.

Michael Kors Watch
Unfortunately I don’t have an IG of this but it’s one of the best presents I’ve ever received. My brother got it for me for my birthday and I just love it. It’s a gold tortoise design with a medium sized face, and I don’t wear a lot of gold, but I’m not a person that has to have all their metals matching, so I don’t mind mixing it with my silver rings It’s so beautiful and it’ll be treasure forever.

Pandora Rings (x) (x) (x)
Until 2014, I was never a jewellery person. I wore earrings and a nose stud but that was it. I sometimes wore a watch but nothing major. So 2014 was a big year for more jewellery for me. Once I got the bracelet, I discovered more rings from Pandora and I wear the rings every day. Not all of them of course, but at least two at a time. They’re a nice accessory especially if you’re not like me and don’t wear big statement necklaces. I prefer rings to necklaces.

For the candles and TV shows, because I’m not the greatest at describing scents and you don’t want to read a big paragraph on each show, I’m just going to list my favourites to make it easier and because no-one wants to hear the words, “great” or “so nice” again.
