(Blogmas Day Twelve) Favourite Nail Polishes of 2016

Happy Blogmas Day Twelve! For someone who is so obsessed with having her nails painted all the time (and also may have about 200 bottles) I don’t understand how I don’t talk about nail polish more on the blog.

If you follow my Instagram, you’ll know that every time I paint my nails, I make a “Nail of the Day” post. I’ve been doing that for a few years now and I can’t see myself stopping any time soon. It’s quick, it’s easy and it helps me keep record of what I’ve been wearing. So for Blogmas Day Twelve, I decided to choose my favourite nail polishes I’ve wore this year and share them today!

1. (OPI) Sorry I’m Fizzy Today.
2. (Nails Inc) Stafford Street.
3. (OPI) The Berry Thought of You
(Nails Inc) Snowflake Effect.
4. (Nails Inc) Villiers Street.
(Nails Inc) Ascot.
(Essie) Blanc.
5. (Chanel) Rouge Noir.
6.(OPI) Look At My Bow.
7.(OPI) Coca-Cola Red.

Super Cuts UK: #SquadGoals (Part Two)

If you haven’t read the first part of this post, it’s right here! It talks about my experience at my first blogger event with SuperCuts and all about their campaign launching a very special competition. So make sure you read that first! (And remember you have until 20th September to enter!)

At the VIP blogger event we got a great goody bag but apparently we were missing products because they hadn’t arrived in time, so we got a free extra products thrown in and then the other ones that didn’t arrive in time, got posted out to us. I’ll not need to buy hair products for a long time now!

I’ll talk about the ones that arrived in the post first. Both from the Bed Head range from TIGI; the Fully Loaded Massive Volume Shampoo and the Fully Loaded Volumizing Conditioning Jelly. I have never used any TIGI products before but I’m really excited about it because you know if a salon uses them, they’re great. I can’t describe the smell but it is incredible! It reminds me of sweets that I used to have when I was younger, but I can’t put my finger on it. If it’s one of those shampoo and conditioners that has the “long lasting smell throughout the day” I will be in love!

We got two mini gift sets on the day itself. The first one is from Wella Professionals; the only Wella Professionals product I have ever used was the Thermal Image Heat Protection Spray and I can say without a doubt, it was the best heat protection spray ever. It even worked through the tangles in my hair instantly; three sprays and I was good to go! Seriously.

In the Wella Oil Reflections set, we got three little mini products; shampoo, conditioner and a hair mask. I have used the shampoo and conditioner already but I don’t feel I can give a true review of it yet. What I did notice when I was drying my hair was that my hair was incredibly softer, more than it had been in a very long time, so I think I’ll test that until it runs out. And we got a cute little brush too!

And finally in the TIGI gft set, there was another three products; a mini Masterpiece Massive Shine Hairspray, Small Talk Thickifier and a Manipulator Texture Paste. When it comes to products like the thickening cream or the paste, I’m not so good at adding texture and volume to my hair. I just end up making a huge mess and then the wind making it ten times worse. But I can’t have them go to waste, so I think I’ll be heading to YouTube to figure out how to use those!

As a little extra bonus, we also got a lipstick too! It’s from Max Factor Marilyn Monroe range and I got the Ruby Red colour. I don’t wear too many red lipsticks, but hey, everyone needs to try new things now and again!

I’m so pleased with the goody bag! They went to so much effort and I couldn’t be more thankful, thank you to Rhys and all the team at Supercuts Belfast!

SuperCuts UK: #SquadGoals (Part One)

That moment when you get invited to your first blogger event, you get really excited for about five seconds then fear sets in. That’s what happened to me when Super Cuts UK kindly invited me to their #SquadGoals VIP Blogger Event in Belfast’s Castlecourt store a few weeks ago.

The campaign is based around a new competition that has launched for an amazing winner! They have teamed up with TIGI to offer the chance for you and up to six friends to win an overnight stay in London worth £6,000 along with a VIP photoshoot and to become the next face of Supercuts! So whether you use Facebook, Twitter or Instagram; just take a photograph of you and your friends (up to six of you altogether) and upload it using the hashtag #SquadGoals and tagging @SuperCutsUK to be in with a chance of winning. For all the terms and conditions of the competition, you’ll find all the info. right here. You have until 20th September to enter!

I had a blow dry complete with a lovely Kerastase hair mask (I can’t remember which one but it was brittle hair, I need some strengthening at the minute!) as well as some volumising products after my hair was dried. (Take note Victoria, take a picture of all the products that were used in your hair! *shakes head*)

The event overall was fantastic! I was at so much more ease than I thought but because I’m still pretty shy, I don’t really have any photographs from it. So if I get the chance to go to another event like this, I would definitely take more! However, when  I got home I took a picture of my hair (as you can see below!) because I wanted to be able to see that I can actually have it a little messy with volume and have it turn out really nice.

All the other bloggers I met were so lovely and it was really nice to find out more about them and why they started blogging, and how it has progressed for them. It definitely made me more passionate about evolving with my blog.

I want to say a special thank you to Supercuts and the team at the Belfast branch for inviting me and making it a really enjoyable experience!

LUSH Haul and Review.

At first, this was just going to be a haul, but we’ve had the products for a few days, and two out of the three products, my boyfriend and I have used before, so it seemed to make more sense to turn it into a haul and review.

It’s a pretty small haul for me, just three products! When I was in college, a trip to LUSH was a very regular thing for me, almost too regular so three products is very small to me.

American Cream Conditioner (100ml) £4.95

Since I don’t have a photograph of this on its own, I’ll talk about it first. American Cream conditioner is one of my favourite conditioners of all time but it seems to be the only conditioner from LUSH that I get on with. Veganese was too liquidy and light for me and I could never get Jungle to condition my hair. I haven’t tried all the conditioners yet, but I think I will always compare them to American Cream.

I love the smell of this conditioner, and it actually lasts in your hair too, which I love! You don’t need a lot of it and a small bottle seems to last a reasonable amount of time too. I can’t fault it at all; surprisingly I don’t panic when I run out of it, it just seems to be when I have zero conditioner then decide to go back to LUSH and buy it, I think “Okay, I know I love this, why did I wait so long to buy it again?”

Kalamazoo Facial and Beard Wash (240g) £12.75

My boyfriend uses this face wash so I can’t give much of an opinion on it but this is his second big tub of it and he’s went through two small tubs as well so I think he really likes it. I don’t think a lot of guys really think about washing their face with more than just water and it was only when I introduced him to LUSH face washes, that he seemed interested. It smells of pineapple which is an added bonus and he says his beard is always really soft afterwards so it’s not drying but not greasy either.

Smugglers Soul Facial Scrub (100g) £8.95

Smuggler's Soul

A new product for both of us! From what I have been reading, this is a limited edition product (Please correct me if I’m wrong!) but I really hope they keep this one around because I really like it. It’s the type of scrub that feels like sand paper but trust me, I mean that in the nicest way possible. I love a good scrub, I want one that actually feels like a scrub and not some fluffy duffy one. This isn’t the strongest scrub in the world, and it doesn’t have the strongest smell either, but I don’t mind that. It feels like it’s doing being a great exfoliator, something simple, and if I can, I’d really like to buy this again. I also find that I don’t need to use as much of this compared to Ocean Salt. I can never find the right amount with that, whereas with Smuggler’s Soul, I don’t need that much at all.

That’s all for this haul but if you’ve tried out any of the same products, or if you have any product recommendations, please let me know!

What’s my verdict on Toothy Tabs?

If you remember when I was away on holiday, I bought a bottle of Toothy Tabs from LUSH. I had tried them before but I wasn’t a huge fan of them but I wanted to give them another go, so I did! Here’s my Testing 1,2,3 Toothy Tabs post, if you missed it before. I bought Miles of Smiles (as you can see below, from my Instagram), it’s a minty version of the tabs so I knew that it would be similar to regular toothpaste.

I was really surprised at how much I liked the toothy tabs. They’re very travel friendly because they’re just a little tiny bottle. To use them all you need to do is: take one toothy tab and crunch it between your front teeth, then simply brush your teeth like normal. It’s so easy, like brushing your teeth should be! The taste at first does take a few goes to get used to, it feels a little fizzy at first but you get used to that.

For me, it wasn’t any faster than regular toothpaste but it wasn’t slower. My mouth felt just as clean, I felt like my teeth were just as clean too, it really is just like regular toothpaste. I can’t really say if it was more whitening but I feel like once I use it more for the next few months, I might see a more noticeable difference. My bottle lasted for over a month and that was with my boyfriend using them too.

If you’re interested in finding out more about Toothy Tabs, you can click here and it’ll take you to the LUSH website. “Miles of Smiles” are £5.95, and you get 100 tabs so I feel like that’s a very reasonable price, considering it is a more natural option to brushing your teeth.

Would I buy them again?

As you can see by the above picture, I already have and I’ve already tried them out too! These are called “Limelight” and my boyfriend and I decided to be a little more adventurous this time with a lime flavour rather than a mint flavour. They’re really nice and they’re actually thicker than the mint ones too.

We’ve decided to completely change over to toothy tabs, we haven’t used regular toothpaste since we started using our first bottle of tabs, and I don’t think we’ll go back. If you want to find out more about these ones, you can click here and these ones are only £4.95.

If you’ve tried out toothy tabs or you’re interested in trying them, let me know what you think!

Testing 1, 2, 3: Toothy Tabs.

So yesterday my boyfriend and I went to LUSH and picked up some toothy tabs. I’ve actually tried them before, I’m almost certain it was the Dirty ones and they were okay but we’re running out of toothpaste and we thought “Hey, we’ll try an alternative”.

I posted a picture to Instagram yesterday of the toothy tabs I bought (as you can see from above). These ones are called “Miles of Smiles” and they’re minty ones! He liked the Boom ones so if we go back for more, we’ll definitely get those ones. I won’t be taking a picture of my teeth, because let’s face it, no-one wants to see that! However, another reason I want to test them for longer than a week is to see if they really make a difference.

  • Will they make my mouth clean?
  • Will they keep me fresh all day?
  • Will they convert me to using them from now on?
  • How much faster will it be?
  • Will it be a slower “brushing my teeth” process?
  • Will they be whitening?

That’s what I’ll be testing out over the next few weeks! I can’t wait to start experimenting, and if you’ve tried any other flavours, let me know, I want to find the best ones (:

The Laurel and Cedar January Box!

(Who are Laurel and Cedar?)
  • Laura is behind Laurel and Cedar where she brings together small local businesses and designers to create a monthly box with 100% vegan, cruelty free and locally sourced products. I’ve never bought a subscription box before* so it was even a new experience for me!
(How did the box arrive?)
LaC Box 04
  • The box arrived in a normal packaging box filled with lots of newspaper shreddings which I find really cute, it really did give that hand made feel and I’m a sucker for that. It also came with a card and a paper telling me the theme of this months’ box and how as always, every product was vegan, cruelty free and handmade from small independent businesses.
(So what’s in the box?)
LaC Box 11
  • FitPit Women’s Deodorant is made by The Green Woman and I will admit I have only used it on days where I know I’ll be having a chill day, but I have smelled a few vegan deodorants before and they haven’t been great. The packaging says “it’s naturally perfumed with Rosemary and Bergamot” so it’s not sweet smelling by any means but it does have a pleasant smell. I can’t wait to try it out on a gym day and a work day, just to see if it really works. The only downside I have about the product (considering I haven’t used it yet) is the packaging itself, it’s really cute don’t get me wrong but I think it will get tougher to use the further down you go down the glass pot. You might need to keep a mini spatula around for that time.
LaC Box 05
  • The lip balm is by a company called Ravens Court Apothecary Company and is in the scent, vanilla and cinnamon. Without a doubt, this smells lovely! It’s a very wintery smell and from what their website says, it’s part of their limited edition seasonal range. The scent of a lip balm definitely makes a difference, I wouldn’t like to use a lip balm or any product on my lips that didn’t smell nice, mainly because it’s so close to your nose. It was smooth, soft and it lasted around an hour on my lips, which might not sound long for a lip balm, but I didn’t feel like I was constantly putting it on loads.

LaC Box 10

  • The Pineapple earrings are seriously so cute! I don’t have a lot of earrings anymore because I threw a lot out because they were really cheap ones so I was really happy to see a pair of earrings. They’re from the company, Hand Made Lab. They’re small but they’re not too small, they’re the perfect size really and I’m just really happy with them.

LaC Box 08

  • Chocolate I could actually eat! (This was after I searched online to see what ingredients was in the chocolate). It was dreamy. Oh so dreamy. It’s made by a company called Love Light Chocolate. As you can imagine, because of my intolerance of cocoa, I can’t eat a lot of chocolate and when I find chocolate used with cacao, it’s a rarity, so this blew me away. They came in a cute little box with around five or six heart shaped chocolates.
  • (No picture, sorry!) This was a cute idea! It’s called the Plant Me Wish Kit; I haven’t used it yet but you write your wishes down on these sheets, you get a little pot, use some compost, put your sheets in, add more compost, leave somewhere warm and watch it grow. I’m intrigued to see if it actually works. And you got three mini pencils with it too.
(Is there anything I didn’t like?)
  • I do have one or two criticisms about the box. This might sound lazy on my behalf, but I had to go onto the Love Light Chocolate’s website to see what ingredients were in the product. With not being able to eat certain things, knowing what was in the chocolate was important to me. Not all vegan chocolate would be soy free. I think the box should have came with a card saying what was in the chocolate, I think that’s really essential.
  • I was really surprised not to see a card naming everything in the box; I know that once you look at the products individually, you get the jist, but a card would make a few things clearer. In saying that, the deodorant did some with a card saying the ingredients (The type of card I would have expected for the chocolate).
  • I wasn’t sure of the pricing of all the products, I had to go on the individually websites to find out and I didn’t find out all the prices that way. The box itself is £20, and even though I wasn’t able to find out everything, I think combining the postage of everything as well as the cost of the products as well, you would save a few pounds buying the box rather than buy them separately.
(And what did I love?)
  • I love that this box is different. I love that they support local businesses and they’re giving smaller independents a chance to get their products out there. I’ve already liked all the companies’ Facebooks, because I really like their products. I love that it’s all different products; I never really wanted to get beauty boxes because as nice as beauty samples are, I don’t want tons and tons of them. So when I got food, deodorant, jewellery, lip balm and a little lifestyle idea, it’s much more satisfying rather than beauty samples you might forget about.
(Would I buy it again?)
  • Absolutely! It’s such a lovely idea. However, I wouldn’t buy it every month and that’s nothing against the company or the contents of the box; it’s just for me I see that as a luxury product and I have bills to pay and other such things and I don’t know how often I could afford to treat myself.
(*Disclaimer: I got this box for £10 instead of the original £20 but this does not reflect my view on the box. All views are my own and I’m completely honest in my opinions about the products.)
